Miss Jersey Malia Washington, affectionately known as “Boots,” “Backpack,” and “Jersey Girl,” was born on March 4, 2014, in Austell, Georgia, to her loving parents, Janell Washington and Corby Maxwell. On February 23, 2026, at Arthur M. Blank Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Jersey was called home to be one of God’s most special angels.
Though her time on earth was brief, Jersey’s life was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable joy. She brought tremendous happiness and light to everyone around her. Jersey had a vibrant personality—she was sassy yet classy, with a radiant smile that could truly light up any room.
Jersey attended Hendricks Elementary in Powder Springs, Georgia. She loved to dance, talk about fashion, eat fruit, and most of all, enjoy a good seafood boil. As the baby girl of the family, she was deeply cherished.
She was preceded in death by her uncle, Tracy Carter Jr., and his wife, Emily Carter, and her uncle Desmond Stiff.
Left to celebrate her precious memories are her devoted parents, Janell Washington and Corby Maxwell; her grandparents, Rev. Tracy Carter Sr., Janet Carter, and Tessa Watts-McMutry; her great-grandmother, Willie G. Watts; and her beloved siblings, Anaysha Maxwell, Ayden Washington, Janiya Washington, Santana Washington, and Mason Washington.
She also leaves behind a host of loving aunts and uncles, including Juanice Washington-Crocker (Darius), Juanita Washington, Willie Washington (Lorey), Charles A. Orr III (Jasmine), Monté Washington, Felicia Carter, and Ashley Washington (Dominique), along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
To her siblings, Jersey was more than a little sister—she was a true warrior: brave, strong, full of courage, and every bit a princess.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Greener Pastures Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Christopher Carter Sr., and the C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Newport News, VA. Kenya Smalls, and Beverly Heath for their love, care, and support during this time.
Jersey’s beautiful spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved Ms. Jersey.
