With deep sadness and pain, we say farewell to the patriarch of the Hicks family, Louis Hicks. Born on July 8, 1939, to Robert and Alberta Hicks, Louis attended the Newport News public schools. Louis was a hardworking family man, a people person, disciplined, and a believer in Jesus Christ. Louis worked in the Newport News Shipyard as a rigger for 40 years until he retired in 2002. On April 5, 2024, the Lord called Louis Hicks home.
Louis credited his longevity to the Lord, working hard, discipline, and friendships he shared. Faith was central to his life, and he prayed daily. Louis will be dearly missed yet remembered as a disciplined hardworking family man that provided, protected, and covered his family.
Louis Hicks is survived by his lovely bride of 67 years, Darrine Hicks and their eleven kids, Shelia Hicks, Iris Flowers, Patricia Hunter (Johnny), Glenda Ivory (Kenneth), Louis Donnell Hicks (Nancy), Tony Hicks (Jane), Reginald Hicks, Kenneth Hicks (Ayanna), Anita Tucker (James), Carlease Hicks, Marcrease Hicks, 23 grandkids, 35 great grandkids, and 2 great-great grandkids.
Louis is predeceased by his seven siblings Willie Mae Logan, Ethel Kelly, Bobbie Gatewood, Louise Finley, Katherine Higgs, Johnny and Robert Hicks. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Hicks family requests you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
