Mr. Strubling Armstead Obituary

Strubling William Armstead was born in Wilmington, DE, on November 10, 1950, to the late William and Thelma Newman Armstead. He attended Wilmington public schools and two years at Delaware Technical School. He was a star basketball player in high school and later started playing tennis. He had an advantage in playing sports by being left-handed.

Strib was always a refined dresser and he loved to cook. His favorite shows were on the Food Network and sports channels.

Strib, as he is affectionately known, started working at General Motors, Wilmington, DE when he was 20 years old, holding various positions. He retired from GM in 2000.

Strib married Pamela Griffin on July 9, 1994, in Wilmington, DE, and the couple resided in Philadelphia, PA.  They loved to attend various jazz shows and restaurants.

Strib was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999. He and Pam lived with his diagnosis, learning all that they could about the disease. Strib and Pam moved to Gloucester, VA in 2003, to reside with Pam's mother Gladys Griffin.  The couple received the Right-Hand-of-Fellowship at St. Paul Baptist Church, Gloucester, VA, in 2004.  Strib became wheelchair-bound in 2005, but that did not stop him from traveling with his wife, mother-in-law, and aide on business trips.

Strib transitioned Wednesday, April 17th, at home, with Pam by his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Pamela, one son Cleon Stewart (LaTasha) (Atlanta, GA), one sister, Renee Gaines (Wilmington, DE), niece Terricia Gaines (Charlotte, NC), nephew Wesley Gaines (Wilmington, DE), great nephew Travis Gaines (Charlotte, NC),two grandchildren, devoted aide Violet Thompson (Urbanna, VA), and a host of cousins and friends.  A special recognition goes to Clinton Tymes, and Richard and James Simmons, who visited Strib every year for the Super Bowl.
